Environmental (sun damage, ocean water damage)

Our skin is our body's natural shield against the outside world, but sometimes, the environment can throw a few challenges its way. Take the sun, for instance. While it provides warmth and light, prolonged exposure to its UV rays can wreak havoc on our skin. Sunburn, premature aging, and an increased risk of skin cancer are just a few of the potential consequences. Also did you know excessive sun exposure can disrupt the natural circadian rhythm of cell renewal in our skin, making it harder for our skin to heal itself efficiently.

Then there's ocean water, which might seem refreshing, but it can also be harsh on our skin. The salt and minerals in seawater can strip away our skin's natural oils, leaving it feeling dry and irritated.

Aging

While aging is a beautiful journey, it does have impacts on our skin. As we age, our skin loses its elasticity and becomes thinner and more fragile, which accelerates the formation and deepening of wrinkles. Aging also causes changes in overall skin texture and tone, and instigates the development of age spots, or hyperpigmentation.

Our facials employ natural ingredients, gentle massage techniques, and relaxation methods to address aging from a comprehensive standpoint. We aim to improve blood circulation, stimulate collagen production, and promote lymphatic drainage, resulting in improved skin tone, texture, and elasticity.

Stress

Stress has an unfortunate cyclical relationship with the skin: stress causes skin problems and skin problems cause stress. Stress affects skin by aggravating skin conditions such as premature aging, eczema, psoriasis, acne, allergies and rashes.

Hormones

Hormones play a crucial role in skin health, influencing oil production, hydration levels, and the development of various skin conditions. Fluctuations in hormone levels during puberty, menstruation, pregnancy, and times of stress can lead to changes in skin texture, increased acne breakouts, and exacerbation of conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Hormonal imbalances related to conditions such as polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid disorders can also manifest in skin issues like excess facial hair growth or dryness. Understanding the hormonal influences on skin health can guide personalized skincare routines and treatment approaches to optimize skin wellness.

Skin Allergies

Some people have reactions to various stimuli (such as natural/artificial compounds, animals, greenery, foods, cleaning agents). If they come into contact with these stimuli, they can experience a range of mild to harsh skin reactions, or “allergic sensitization.” Conditions such as dermatitis and eczema can be the outcome of these reactions. Gentle massage techniques and calming treatments help soothe irritated skin, promoting a healthier complexion for those prone to allergies.

Mask-ne

Masks can cause skin irritation and acne when pores get clogged and the increased moisture creates an environment where bacteria can grow. Gentle products are critical in caring for skin issues affected by masks or other items that cause friction against the skin such as chin guards and helmets. Our custom facials focus on overall skin health and balance, helping to strengthen the skin's barrier function and minimize the impact of wearing masks on the skin.
